Clearwater Florida

Clearwater

An enchanting, tropical Florida community that retains some of the old Florida charm yet is an energetic and very much a contemporary city that rivals others in its lifestyle, services, and amenities.  Clearwater and the surrounding area is rich in activities, festivals and special events.  It is part of a larger metropolitan area located on the west coast of Florida among many cities, towns and beach-front communities.  Each of these areas offer a bit of diversity in its population, lifestyle and local activities.

Activities

While best known for the area's beaches, which are rated among the best in the country, Clearwater also offers sports and entertainment venues, arts and cultural facilities, eco-tourism opportunities and exciting festivals throughout the year.  In addition to the fine beaches, also consider the many activities available at the Municipal Marina.  There are many boating, fishing, sightseeing, charters and dinner boat activities available through the marina.

Places To Stay

Choose among traditional motel/hotels, beach resorts or vacation rentals.   Bed and Breakfasts are not widely available in Clearwater, but the selection of hotels, resorts and vacation rentals is considerable.  Generally less costly than many larger cities, one can find a full range of accommodations from excellent value to extravagant.

Clearwater vs the Beach

The city and the beach are separated by the Intracoastal waterway.  The mainland features many of the interests of any contemporary city, while the beach area offers a more casual setting and lifestyle.

While well know for recreation activities, events and festivals, the Gulf Coast has some of the best beaches in Florida as well as the US.  Several local beaches have been regularly rated as the best beaches in America.

Barrier Islands

Along this west coast Florida area are a string of barrier islands with fine white sand beaches.  These beaches include Honeymoon Island, Caladesi Island, Clearwater Beach, Sand Key Park, Indian Rocks Beach, Madeira Beach, St. Pete Beach, Pass-a-Grille and Fort de Soto Park.  There are few places in the country that rival this region for its beaches.

Situated on a beautiful peninsula located on Florida's West coast, the region has nearly 35 miles of white-sand beaches on some 20 barrier islands.  Residents and visitors can choose between well developed areas with hotels, condominiums and lots of good restaurants, or the natural, and still undeveloped areas that represent Florida's best.
